august leave

I have a couple of weeks leave in August, and happily for a change, my wife also has one of the two same weeks off as well. Leaving the kid to dog-sit, with complete disregard for the potential weather forecast, as it’s simply too early to tell, my August ambitions are as follows:

  • Saturday 1st: gig at The Swan in Thornbury
  • Sunday 2nd: afternoon race at South Cerney, either Albacore or if no Amanda or Alex to crew, Laser
  • Sunday 3rd: drive down to boat soon as Nik finishes work
  • Monday 4th: sail for Fowey
  • Tuesday 5th: spend the day in Fowey
  • Wednesday 6th: sail for Falmouth
  • Thursday 7th: spend the day in Falmouth
  • Friday 8th: sail for Helford
  • Saturday 9th: sail for Fowey
  • Sunday 10th: sail for Plymouth then drive Nikki home
  • Monday 11th & Tuesday 12th: shore leave
  • Wednesday 13th: evening race at South Cerney, Laser, then drive to Plymouth
  • Thursday 14th: sail for Salcombe
  • Friday 15th: sail for Brixham
  • Saturday 16th: sail for Dartmouth
  • Sunday 17th: sail for Plymouth, then drive home

Of course, most of the above is dependent upon crew and weather, so we shall see. But it’s a plan.

The photo at the top is from the veranda of the sailing club last year, overlooking the Helford.

And from the same spot, but zoomed in on Petrella, out on a visitor's mooring. She's easy to spot as the sail is rolled around the boom. The visitor moorings at Helford are amongst my favourite on the south coast. Easy to spot, easy to pick up and lots of room between them. Not to mention set in a beautiful location.
