e) is bugging the hell out of me. Can't for the life of me find what it means.

Hmm, vertical clearance above chart datum, methinks. (I don't know this for certain, but it sure looks like that feature (D20) in the Admiralty NP5011 Symbols & Abbreviations book).

Beg pardon, I should have said "above height datum", not "chart datum" (an interesting 'gotcha' for an exam question).

Thank-you! That makes perfect sense. There's an example on the RYA3 chart, a bridge over the river running into S. Kilda Bay on the east coast of the Southern Peninsula, marked just like that.
